Today I truly felt spring for the first time. The sun shone warm, and high in the sky — nearly twice as high as it rose at midwinter. And the air received the heat well, spreading it everywhere.
It’s interesting. My new home is not nearly as cold as I’d expected it to be. Low temperatures here have tended to be above the winter lows in my previous home — above freezing, in fact. But for the first time in years, I’m glad for winter to end.
I suspect it might be the sun. Though I have loved the darkness of winter here and loved the low angle of the sun, it has certainly come at a price. And now as the sun returns, I begin to feel ransomed from the dark. That is a new feeling for me, having always lived closer to the tropics than the arctic. I enjoy it.
